Yes! I have a lot to say!! Personally, BLW perfectionism used to make me feel bad about adult dinner, but actually it’s GREAT to make something easy your kid wants and then make something you want later if it works for you!!
Hi!!! A salt cellar. Sounds like a job for Rel's Recs. <3
I have a few I like. I actually use small Le Creuset Cocottes (https://go.shopmy.us/p-12560781) in the kitchen for cooking salt and then espresso cups from travels on every table in the house for flaky salt. But I also love the challenge of finding something unique and cool.
I've been just stewing in like outward silence but inside psychotic plotting about everything that happened in Onyx Storm. I am emotionally exhausted.
We can DM about Onyx Storm to avoid spoilers here lol. I loved the ending scene. I felt like some of the action sequences weren't as clear as her first two books (truly, I think writing action sequences the reader can actually follow is one of Yarros's core strengths) and I'm ready for some of these easter eggs to hatch in book 4.
Size wise this might not be an option, but I use a fancy ceramic (glazed) pot for my salt which is easy to clean/easy to fill/and most importantly, easy to access when I'm cooking! Also, it was much more affordable.
A test kitchen I worked in had the zero japan salt cellar and I kind of hated it — its annoying to open every time especially if your hands are messy! You're on the right path with your current bowl and also salt pie thinking. I've had an eye on this one from Food52 and its a little bit smaller than the Emilie Henry version: https://food52.com/shop/products/1259-salt-cellar?sku=33414
Oooh this is very pretty! And great point re: the lid/messy hands. The thing about my little Ikea bowl is that it's definitely not a broken system. I can keep using it indefinitely. I think a salt cellar (if I figure out which one to go for) might be something I put on my Hanukkah/Christmas wish lists at the end of the year. Something that would be really nice to have, but not a need.
I have a two-chamber salt cellar with a swiveling lid, and I absolutely LOVE it. One side holds regular Diamond Crystal kosher, the other flaky finishing salt.
Oh that's a really good idea to split with kosher and flaky salt. Right now, I keep the kosher salt in a little metal bowl as I mentioned, and I just have a small box of maldon nearby. I like that this particular cellar isn't too big either.
Yep, I was doing exactly the same thing as you and had no idea how much this thing would change my life until I bought it. It's easily the best purchase I've ever made for my (also miniscule) kitchen, and that's saying a lot (I live and die by my magnetic knife strip and microplane). This lil guy sits next to the stove, and I love that it's easy to open with one hand and I can expose either or both sides as needed. I find it much more functional than the ones with a removable or flip-top lid.
Kitchen mats make such a big difference... though I'm considering adding a pair of kitchen shoes/clogs, especially for my dad's kitchen which has brutal slate floors that are giving me so much back pain.
Personally, I cannot relate! I feel taller and more powerful in my clogs! LOL. I think it totally depends on the make and brand though — dankso are my go-to but I have a pair from J.Crew that is really clompy.
Oooof slate. I am a strict no-shoe-inside person, but I do make exceptions for allowing myself to wear sneakers or birks when I'm feeling especially achy. I've never worn kitchen clogs, but I like this idea! (And I think I'd keep mine indoor only)
Fatigue mats are a lifesaver! My absolute favorites are spendy but worth every penny: https://www.wellnessmats.com/collections/all
I am a full convert.
adult dinner!
Adult dinner!!!
Obsessed with adult dinner. We must discuss further.

Actually now that I’m seeing this typed out I might do a whole essay on adult dinner soon…
I see more than an essay…

I LOVE that kitchen mat you linked to. So chic.
Okay these Le Creuset Cocottes are ADORABLE.

I love the idea of something lovely! The ceramic salt pig I listed is Very Tempting to me

Here is a similar one: https://www.worldmarket.com/p/olive-wood-double-salt-cellar-with-swivel-lid-505746.html

This is VERY convincing!!
The only thing is, it might be a little larger than what you wanted - it's about 5" in diameter. But the other features make it worth the space, imo.

I've weirdly been eying a pair of croc clogs for this exact purpose! Please report back if you find something you love!
am I the only person who feels kinda unsteady in clogs? Especially if you have to run to get the door?

Yeah I think I'd need indoors-only shoes for this, especially in NY.
Yum! I needed this recipe last night—going on the list for this weekend :)
The miso chicken soup or the beans alla vodka? I'm definitely going to make the latter again before my heavy cream expires haha
Miso chicken—I’m on a soup kick!
